Pilot, Copilot Killed as Private Jet Crashes in Dominican Republic
The US-registered Gulfstream G200, bound for Austin, Texas, had been approximately 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana when the crew declared an emergency citing severe mechanical failures. The aircraft turned back toward the airport in a bid to execute an emergency landing — but touched down catastrophically, bursting into flames upon impact.
Preliminary reports confirmed that only the two crew members were aboard the doomed flight at the time of the crash, with no passengers among the casualties.
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and the Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) swiftly launched formal investigations into the incident.
"Aviation authorities activated the corresponding protocols and are conducting the necessary investigations to determine the causes of the incident. Both the IDAC and the CIAA will provide additional information as the investigation progresses," read an official statement released by the IDAC on the US social media platform X.
No further technical details surrounding the crash have been made public, and authorities have yet to issue an official determination regarding the root cause of the mechanical emergency that ultimately proved fatal for both crew members.
